Salvador Ordóñez (1972) is University Professor in the chemical and environmental engineering department of the University of Oviedo since 2012. He received the Young Researcher Award (<40 years old) from the Iberoamerican Federation of Catalysis Societies (FISOCAT) in 2010 due to his research career. His research work has been carried out in the University of Oviedo and during stays in other universities such as the Delft University of Technology or the University of Berkeley. His interests are focused on the application of heterogeneous catalysis and chemical reactors for the termination of different environmental issues (VOCs elimination, treatment of waste and effluents contaminated with chloroorganic compounds, NOx reduction, emerging pollutants removal from waste waters), as well as the development of processes based on renewable feedstock (membrane reactors for hydrogen production, biofuel production from non-edible biomass via catalytical processes, valorization of methane from coal mines ventilation gases, etc.). Adsorption processes (in aqueous and gaseous phase), chemical processes simulation and electro-catalytic and photocatalytic techniques are also in his research area. As cross-cutting issues he has work intensively in the application of different material characterization techniques such as physisorption, chemisorption, electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), XPS, X-ray diffraction, etc.

He is author or coauthor of more than 185 scientific articles published in international journals, 4 patents and several book chapters. He also has participated in research contracts and technological consulting contracts with different companies and public administrations.  In the educational field he has been teaching since 1999 in the knowledge area of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology in several university degrees (Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Industrial Engineering, etc.). Professor Ordoñez is also a member of the Spanish Society of Catalysis and the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry, spanish representative in the European Federation of Societies of Catalysis (EFCATS) since 2019, member of several scientific committees from different national and international congresses, including the Presidency of the Organizing Committee of the SECAT-17 Congress in Oviedo and is censor in diverse premier journals in the area of knowledge of catalysis, process and environmental engineering. Since May 2016 he combines his educational and research activities with the position of Director of the Researching Management Area of the University of Oviedo. Furthermore, since May 2019 he is a Collaborator of the "Division of Coordination, Evaluation and Scientific and Technical Follow-up" of the Spanish State Research Agency.
